It's amazing to me how much the youth of this country have changed.

WWII: Twenty-somethings giving all.

Today: Twenty-somethings demanding all.

Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?.

According to the Ayn Rand objectivists, the top group are fools, the bottom group intelligently seeking to maximize their self-gain.

Coincidentally, post Goldwater, much of conservatism holds an equal worship of the individual. The top group are by modern conservative standards selfless automatons of the state....the top group commies are even wearing identical clothes and walking in step to further reduce their sense of self to be reformed in a group...or (gasp) a collective!

The bottom group is a wonderful example of hyper-individualism and selfishness, the culmination of the hatred of the state so espoused by the libertarian.

What I don't understand is your problem with the bottom group then?

guess people waking up to the fact that they are a power broker's tool is a bad thing? WWII had the Nazis to galvanize us around a common cause, what do we have today? Enron, Haliburton, weapons of mass destruction, corporate bailouts, and other assorted lies. why is it only children of the rich who can buy their way out of the draft?

self-entitlement used to be a contrivance of the wealthy, guess voodoo economics is working afterall.

Eh, not quite.

The latter group are not "intelligently" seeking to maximize their self-gain. I never saw Ayn Rand advocating the expectation of being given benefits by government or others without having done something yourself to get them. The latter group are trying to be leeches, sucking sustenance off of others who have expended the effort to create it.

Objectivists do not believe they are entitled to anything from the government or anyone else merely for existing and being "in need" of something.

The ends justifies the means no Mr Galt?.

If one can get $ by working, or by doing nothing, which is better from a selfish viewpoint?

If society is stupid enough to even have safety nets (which it is from the objectivist viewpoint-remember, the unemployed are "parasites"), isn't it more intelligent to take advantage of that to get money and expend no energy, as opposed to working for it and expending energy?

If an animal has to choose between burning 800 calories to chase down and eat a 300 calorie mouse, why bother? Now, if that animal can lie in wait to just grab a mouse as it walks by and only expend 5 calories from snapping its jaws, it comes out much better.

DItto with slaving away at a job and seeing your earnings vanish via taxes, or just stay home and get a check. There is an intelligent, possibly unconscious logic to it.

Then again the OWS were never about "hand outs", so this is moot point. I do have more respect for OWS than the "greatest generation". One is trying to reduce corporate and special interests lobbying effects from government, the other were poor men fighting a rich mans war....as is the case in every single war.

Really? Really? Note to self, just another delusional individual that considers themselves more enlightened than all those around them. I have absolutely nothing in common with this.... person intellectually and doesn't deserve any of my time. Improv is for comedy clubs, not intellegent converstation.

I first realized it when I was getting paid 900/month as a lower enlisted and I overheard two contractors joking about clearing 150k/year, this was circa 2001.

I imagine those guys are getting 250k/year by now.

When the CEO's of defense conglomerates or the sons of our illustrious chicken hawk politicians get their limbs amputated by an ied I'd consider the burden equally shared. Yes, it will be quite the day to see the country club hire a stump dressing changer to tend to that.

Until then poor and/or foolish people will continue to be fed into meat grinders for the benefit of the 1%.

Because you can't really serve an abstract idea like a "country", but ya can serve its masters. And they pay total crap.

Like I said, improv is for comedy clubs, not intellegent converstation. I learned a long time ago that radical people, albeit misguided are not logical and cannot be reasoned with nor can you have a civil conversation. I refuse to try. You will never listen to reason and you certainly will not convert me.
Good day sir or if you would rather "Oh Great Enlightened One". I would prefer sir but I'm good either way.
