How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbsThis comes from Doug Powers at http://dougpowers.com
With the closure this month of the last incandescent light bulb factory in the U.S., and the almost guarantee that the government will be banning them soon, Doug has a brilliant (pun intended) suggestion that we all can get behind. Besides, what's a few more dim bulbs in Washington?. --- http://dougpowers.com/2010/09/08/how-to ... ightbulbs/ --- Light bulb factory closes; End of era for U.S. means more jobs overseas http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 06933.html “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke
Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbs
They are already banned... there are new energy efficiency standards that have passed, but have yet to come into effect that will make incandescent no longer allowed to be sold.
Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbs
Serious inquiry, not trying to be snarky here (lazy, ok, sure...), but, citation please? I mean, I use lots of CF here at the house because they seem to last longer and they certainly keep my energy bill where I like it...
Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbsNo snark perceived... but its a provision of the bill that very few people knew about.
The law was signed by Bush back in December 2007.... Energy Independence & Security Act of 2007 "Under the measure, all light bulbs must use 25% to 30% less energy than today's products by 2012 to 2014. The phase-in will start with 100-watt bulbs in January 2012 and end with 40-watt bulbs in January 2014. By 2020, bulbs must be 70% more efficient." The bill is over 800 pages so forgive me for not quoting it all here So in about a year, you'll start seeing 100 watt bulbs disappearing, and only the CFL's or LED bulbs to take their place.
Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbsI see the rise of the 120 watt bulb. Just like SUVs were the response of the death of full-size station wagons due to the milage requirements.
Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbsI've found the most cost effective manner for disposing of the new bulbs is to open the trash can and drop them in, close lid and go to work.

The standard is lumens per watt and applies to 100 watt and above. There will be no wiggle room for general use bulbs.
Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbsI wonder what the prison term will be fore black market selling of lightbulbs in the new america?

Re: How to properly dispose of compact flourescent light bulbs
CFL's contain mercury. Yeah, one bulb won't hurt ya, but imagine every other house in the neighborhood tossing out a bulb every few months. That's gonna build up like alot of crap in the dump already is.
