It's been said that the difference between an anti-gunner and a pro-gunner is one mugging. This lady needed several lessons and needs more. Should I Buy a Gun?I’d never seen an actual gun, except in the holsters of police officers. To my mind, guns were verboten, menacing, violent. They were unpredictable contraptions beloved of white supremacists or paranoid meth heads in creepy desert hideouts. My formative years were spent in Illinois, where gun control laws have long been some of the strictest in the nation. I lived in a middle-class suburb, where mall-going was the chief recreational pastime and there wasn’t a culture of hunting or shooting for sport.
Long ,albeit well written, story short - she now owns a Ruger LCR but as of the writing of the story is afraid of it.

While I am thrilled that the author has decided to exercise her 2A rights, it sounds to me like she really needs to go shooting more.
Her fear of her own gun could prove to be even more dangerous to her than not owning one.
Her boyfriend stated to her that she should fear it; he's wrong. She should respect it. Yes, it can be a dangerous tool, but so is an axe, or a chainsaw, or a propane torch. But, a respect for these things, along with the knowledge of proper usage and safe handling, should keep you safe from harm when using them. Fear makes you nervous, and nervousness makes one jittery and prone to poorly thought out decisions.

+1 It's a machine you have control over it there should be nothing to fear. More shooting will most of the time cure that problem.

Its a machine much like a car, we are all intimidated by a machine that is bigger and stronger than us. But by by proper instruction and experience behind the wheel we become accustomed, and sometimes complacent, to the machine. We learn how it functions and the normal sounds and feel of the machine, and thus know when something is wrong with the machine. If we used our guns as much as we drive the gun would be an everyday part of our life and accepted as a tool.
