If you didn't import or manufacture it 922(r) doesn't apply. It has nothing to do with possession.

For the record - I'm not too worried about any "Bad press" with this topic. I think it's a good discussion, and I appreciate the OP putting it out here. Clearly, the OP would not post on a public forum that he intends to break the law. He was simply seeking input and identifying the fact that not everyone who holds an FFL is completely clear on what the laws are.

Close, it's assembly, not import or manufacture. So that argument might fly with a standard SKS with a fixed magazine, but not one that takes detachable mags, as installing the mag is assembly (recall that a normal box magazine has three forbidden parts in it).
