This is a story about a store clerk shooting an armed robber in VA Beach.IMHO, People that make corporate policy need to be in the store, not sitting in a safe office making decisions about other people's lives. Big brother?

In the article corporate says "7-Eleven prohibits carrying firearms into its stores . . .Police say don't confront, call 911."

So my question is: are customers prohibited from carrying firearms in the corporate stores, or just employees? Franchises make their own rules. Anyone know the answer?

So can someone explain to me how to avoid confrontation when the robber is threatening you with a gun. To me, avoiding a confrontation is walking away.

The standard line is "just do what they say - comply with their demands." The thinking is if you don't fight them, the majority of robbers just want to get the money and get out of there. Which in fact probably is true - most of them don't really want to kill someone and that's not why they're there - they just want the money and to get out of there. But of course, you don't know that when a gun is in your face. There also have been lots of incidents where the stupid thug walked in and pointed a gun at the clerk and fired it, because the idiot didn't know how to handle the gun - you can see in those videos that the perp was actually surprised and shaken up when the gun goes off, because he didn't mean for it to. But of course, he's been watching too many movies and walked in with his finger on the trigger.

You also don't know whether this guy is one of those who just want to take the money and run, or some sadistic or violent career criminal who really couldn't care for you any more than they care for a tick or house fly. So if you comply with their demands, they still might shoot you as they leave.

But yeah, the standard "advice" from corporate and from a lot of ranking law-enforcement typically is "just do what they say, give them what they want, and they'll go away."

Yeah, tell that to those young people who were marched into the freezer at the Burger King and shot in the back of the head a few years back. I've always read that the data shows that if you go with the creep to a different location, that's where he's going to kill you. If he says, "ok, go into the back room and get on your knees," that's when you know what's coming.

I've never experienced a single issue at any 7-11 anywhere in the Commonwealth, nor seen signage of any nature beyond the likes of "No more than two unaccompanied minors allowed in the store at a time" posted on the one across the street from Bayside High School.

Open carry constantly in Seb-leven's. Nary a negative word spoken about it.

I have read, and been told, that when a professional (read: hardcore) criminal orders someone to move to another location that they are aware they have just committed kidnapping in addition to armed robbery and, so they might as well not leave witnesses. The advice concluded with "if you are ever told to go somewhere other than a simple 'back against that wall', it's time to fight" Now this presupposes that the criminal IS a (knowledgeable professional), but this would be my final red flag wrt whether or not to resist, if I had chosen not engage prior to that for whatever reason. Another red flag would be if I were carrying a concealed weapon and it appeared that I was about to be searched by said criminal.

I believe 7-11's policy of just give the criminals what they want is store policy for finacial and insurance reasons. It's easier for them to replace the money or merchandice a criminal takes than to fight a family in court because 7-11 failed to protect their employees.

if all the cash, and chips/soda/beer in a 7-11 were taken it would be WAY cheaper than even a minor lawsuit defense where someone was injured, let alone a settlement with the injured party.

From a corporate view its a simple risk/reward analysis.


As far as the original question was asked, I've never seen a 7-11 posted for no carry, and have never been asked about it when I am OCing.
