Hence the phrase "turn the other cheek".
See quote from Matthew 5:17 below.
The uh, relaxations of the Law was done for convenience by Paul to increase the number of Gentile converts, its worth noting the Judaizers were all for keeping the whole Law for the Gentile converts, this as you may remember from Acts and the Great Circumcision Debate contained therein.
Eventually some watered down thing (no worshiping idols, improperly slaughtered meat consumption, etc.) was agreed upon by James, Peter, and Paul IIRC. And the gentiles got to keep their foreskins.
What I find fascinating is that I asked for an example of an even somewhat mainstream Christian fundamentalist group that has much in common with Iranian Islam. So far you have so far given me three political cartoons meant to insult social conservatives, an obscure verse from Deuteronomy, and bunch of bait and switch. But so far no doctrine from any mainline denomination that is anywhere near the insanity that reigns there.
Uh, 1/3rd of Protestant Christians isn't "somewhat mainstream"? You're reaching.
Again, I was comparing the similarities between the two ideologies, not specifically Iran.
Just because I believe that something is literal in the bible does not mean that it is applicable or even appropriate for today. Your hermuentics is again lacking.
If' you're going to throw big words around, at least spell them and use them right. Hermeneutics is not even relevant as I have not engaged in it rather I have been using a simple comparative analysis of similarities.
And by and by, if your definition of literal "does not mean that it is applicable or even appropriate for today", are you in fact confessing the Bible is a dated work created for a specific time and place that has less or even no relevance today?
Do you pick and choose? Lets ask Jesus what he thinks:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17)
Sorry, sounds like you have to take the Mosaic law seriously and can't just dismiss it arbitrarily. Seems you don't believe it literally after all. Been keeping kashrut I hope?
Now we're getting into some Biblical hermeneutics. Its as fun as I remember!
As far as touching a nerve--I was merely trying to point to you that it is not polite to compare whole groups of people to murderous barbarians.
Probably not polite to paint a populous diverse nation with a "murderous barbarians" label either.
