I was trying a new set of ads over the last couple of days and noticed that a lot of the ads were for Russian mail-order brides. I had hoped that after a couple of days, the ad servers would realize the type of site that we run and start tailoring ads more toward our content, but it didn't happen quickly enough - so I removed the ads from the site. So, if anyone is looking for a Russian mail-order bride, please contact me privately and I'll run the ad long enough for you to get a click on it Please understand that the ads on this site help to support site development and hosting costs, so if you want to click from time to time, please feel free to do so! Someone suggested creating a "VGOF Membership" of sorts that would result in paid members not having to see any advertisements. I think this is a good idea, but it wouldn't be a simple implementation, so I'll have to sit and think about it for awhile. Please answer the poll to let me know how you feel about this idea. Any other thoughts?

If implemented, would the $50 ad-free membership be compulsory for use of the forum or just an option?

I saw that ad, and wondered about it. Based on the answer above that the only difference payment of a membership fee would make is not seeing the ads, I voted for the last choice - do what you gotta do. In fact, if that's the way it is, I don't really understand why you bothered to ask (except maybe to determine whether there were so few takers on the no-ad fee that it wouldn't be worth the trouble), but it was very considerate of you. But the ads don't really matter to me one way or the other. I've been married (speaking of wives) a long time. I know how to ignore what I don't want to deal with.

I don't think it's a good idea to put that online. WHO KNOWS who's checking? I love big-caliber and longe-range rifles and 1911 pistols, and I've got a few.

I can always use another 1911.

Even if optional, I don't know if I'd pay $50 to do what my free adblock software does for me. If there were some other options or perks that came with a paid membership I'd be more likely to jump on.

This is a tried and true model that I would support.
