Action Items & Gun Buy Back Program -- Fredericksburg Va

Please take a minute and contact our Senators with the pre-written form/link provided be below.

1. ACTION ITEM: Last shot at National Reciprocity for a while
2. ACTION ITEM: Rockbridge County trying to block expansion of range
3. Chance to buy some guns, cheap? Fredericksburg gun buy-up

1. ACTION ITEM: Last shot at National Reciprocity for years

Gun Owners of America is asking gun owners for one last push to save National Reciprocity before the clock runs out. They say there is still time to do it, so let's roll! The link, below, includes a pre-written letter you can send easily.

From GOA's alert:

Right now, Senate Republicans are working to pass a prison sentencing reform bill -- with the help of the Democrats and with the support of Donald Trump.

Among other things, this legislation will make it easier for certain convicted criminals to get their voting rights restored.

In the thinking of many in Congress, this is a "must pass" bill that needs to be put on the president's desk before the end of the year.

That means this bill is our best vehicle to pass concealed carry reciprocity before it becomes a dead letter.

But to do that, we are going to have to get loud. We'll need to contact our Senators and get every pro-gun person we know to do the same.

So please take the following actions:

1) Contact your Senators ( ... tId=492978 ) and demand that the Senate leadership pass concealed carry reciprocity -- preferably, the as-introduced version of H.R. 38 which is better than the Senate bill.

2) Call Sen. Mitch McConnell -- at 202-224-2541 -- and demand that he put concealed carry reciprocity onto a must-pass bill (like prison sentencing reform).

2. ACTION ITEM: Rockbridge County trying to block expansion of range

Member Adrian Gordon contacted me about needing VCDL members and other gun owners to turn out in numbers at a hearing to allow a shooting range to expand in Rockbridge County. Adrian wrote:

Quail Ridge Sporting Clays in Rockbridge County is attempting to expand it’s operation to include a rifle and pistol range on it’s existing property which now contains a first rate clays course. The County is apparently seeking to prevent this based on the complaints of some neighbors who do not want the expansion (and would indeed be delighted to shut down the existing operation). The facility has been in operation 25 years or more as a clays course without any mishap.

A Board of Zoning appeals hearing on this issue is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 7 pm at:

Meeting Room
County Administrative Offices
150 South Main Street
Lexington, VA 24450

We believe that it would be extremely helpful if we could get a large turnout of VCDL members from this county to attend that meeting to show support for Scott Guise (the owner) and Quail Ridge Sporting Clays in this matter.

Rockbridge members, spread the word and let's get a good turnout to support the range!

3. Chance to buy some guns, cheap? Fredericksburg gun turn-in

Fredericksburg is once again trying to get citizens to turn in their guns for destruction.

This is always a good opportunity for gun owners to get a great deal on firearms by setting up nearby and seeing if the those giving up their guns would like to sell them instead. Fredericksburg is not offering anything for the guns, so the bar is really low!

Fredericksburg Police Headquarters
2200 Cowan Boulevard
Fredericksburg, VA

Date: Saturday, December 8th
Time: 10 am to 2 pm

From the Fredericksburg PD's Facebook page. (They call this a "giveback", but the PD never gives away guns to citizens. It is more accurately a "give up" or a "turn in" event):

Our annual Gun Giveback event is Saturday, December 8th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Police Headquarters. Sponsored by our agency and Fredericksburg Sheriff's Office, the Gun Giveback event allows for gun owners to surrender any unwanted firearms for proper and safe disposal to ensure their firearms never end up in the hands of criminals or children. Over 150 guns have been collected over the last four events and we look forward to collecting more at this year's event for safe disposal.
