We didn't try a .45 ACP and not sure if we will next time. Having this much fun can get expensive real quick!

1st Time Shooting Handguns - FUN!!My wife and I have been shooting our HD shotgun for a bit, but plan on getting our CCWs so we decided to dip our toes into the handgun realm and see what we could comfortably and safely handle. Started off with a revolver in .38 special to get the feel of things. My wife traded that for a smaller .38 that she could handle better while I stepped up to a semi H&K in 9mm. As a lefty all of the controls felt nice as they were ambidextrous. I wanted to try the SA XD9 subcompact next and that felt nice too. Eventhough the magazine release wasn't ambidextrous it was still smooth and easy for me to operate it. My wife liked shooting it as well. The last gun we tried was a .40 S&W Glock 27. It felt good for both of us both two handed and single handed. We started feeling the recoil in the palm of our hands between the thumb and index finger. Does that "go away" the more you shoot? I did feel my pinky pinch between the magazine and grip a few times.

lol I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to mention a 1911.
Re: 1st Time Shooting Handguns - FUN!!No .45 colts can get expensive.....I'd love to shoot my judge often but dang those bullets! T_T Revolvers do help you not bloqw through bullets but those higher caliburs can be pricey.
As for the feel between you thumb and forefinger, go to a gunshop and test a few guns out. Squeeze the handles and see if they're comfortable. It's why I chose my M&P 9mm over the Glock, not only did it not pinch there but had interchangable grips. “I'd much rather go to my grave never needing to use my gun, than go there wishing I had"
Re: 1st Time Shooting Handguns - FUN!!If pricey was the issue, I'd go fishin.
There's a vast array of firearms experiences available out there. Most all of it's fun....at least once! There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, in the end, 'Thy will be done.'
