This topic doesn't quite fit nicely anywhere. I ordered one of these last night. Steel Plate Target: https://www.saluteproducts.com/product_ ... cts_id=155Target stand (holds any 1/2" steel plate): https://www.saluteproducts.com/product_ ... cts_id=154I'll write a range report on it, but it could take a month to get as the 1/2" steel isn't stocked all the time. Most places use 3/8" nominally, but I like my high powered rifles. $376 shipped, but these things last forever. You can get them much cheaper if you only shoot pistols at them or don't care about the stand breakdown as much. I drive that small civic and I have to fit a lot of things in it. Just make sure it is AR500 steel, accept nothing else. The best designs IMO have no bolts, etc. on the face and don't weld or otherwise temper the steel. Manufacturers claim it is safe to shoot steel from 10-15 yards back. LE/Military friends of mine say 7 yards (21ft) unless you are using frangible ammo. Manufacturers like a little buffer room for legal reasons. Always wear eye protection!

It will penetrate 2/3" of armor steel at 500 meters and 1/3" at 1200 meters.
That was mild steel and 100 yards. Lots of fun.

They get you on the stand and shipping isn't cheap. The steel is only $190 + S&H. Last I heard a 4'x8' slab of steel like that was north of $1k in "large" quantities. Of course you have to pay to get it shipped to your place and worked into a target.

Yep, an the only way to ship it is by tractor trailer or train car. Ching ching the cost sky rockets. It is most likely going to be higher real soon as the cost of fuel goes up. Bill

Actually you can. There's AR550 and thicker AR500. AR550 is pushing the brittle end a bit for some applications and thicker AR500 is good for big guns like .50BMG. I like the salute products for close range steel and transportation. They set up and transport easily which is a big issue for me. I like their angled design and haven't had any issues with back splatter (note that any steel target will toss lead up into the air and it may come down on you, but that's not dangerous...its the stuff that comes straight back at you that's the problem and I haven't had an issue). I haven't had any issues with the edges chipping (unlike some cheaper AR500 targets), but may not be representative of the product as a whole (i.e. I've just been lucky). The product really shines as a pistol/SD target. Instant feedback, no splatter issues, no durability issues regardless of range, etc. Great way to push your SD training to the next level...quit worrying about perfect shots and hit the thing consistently and quickly. Steel is great for this training and I like the Salute products. Overall I'm very happy with the product and would buy again. Although they carry a price premium, I think it's justified at this point. YMMV. I'd love to test their .50BMG steel circle, but I have other things to buy at the moment.

Arntzen sells targets for a good price. I haven't ordered yet so I don't know how much shipping is going to cost. http://www.arntzentargets.com/products.htmLifetime NRA Member

I just ordered two of these. $119 each and free shipping from optics planet. http://www.gunsumerreports.com/review_c ... e_gong.phpI'm looking forward to getting them. Good review. Make sure you watch the video. Seems the frame takes some abuse and you gotta make sure you get the stakes all the way in.

That site is nice! Never seen it before, I think I have a new favorite for gun reviews.
