Federal Firearms License (FFL) FAQ

ATF Website wrote:Because of legal reasons, and the requirement of fingerprint cards and photographs, the Form 7 (Application for FFL) cannot be posted on our site. To receive the application, along with the proper fingerprint cards, either go to the Distribution Center Order Form or call the Distribution Center at (703) 455-7801 and a packet will be sent to you via U.S. mail. If you e-mail your request, please provide your complete name and address address, the type of license you wish to apply for and a packet will be sent to you via U.S. mail.

A full blown FFL doesn't seem to be that much more difficult than the C&R. It will cost you $200.00 for the first 3 years. Keep in mind the license is issued to you at a premises, i.e. your business address unless you get a C&R then it's your collection address. If you move you cannot automatically start doing business in the new location. You also have to send your record to the ATF if you ever stop conducting business as an FFL but with a C&R you do not have to send your records if you stop collecting.

I'm not sure if there are requirements that the physical location must meet. There may be state laws that require you to do certain things also.

Here is a link to the the FFL Center.

Forms are available HERE.
