Online Classes vs. Classroom Classes

Online Classes vs. Classroom Classes

Postby Adamt » Thu, 08 Dec 2011 15:06:48

I'd like to get my concealed handgun permit soon. I've read the requirements and according to this forum seems to recommend the online CHP class. Online is definitely cheaper but not by that much. Which do you recommend and why? I'm not new to firearms, I understand basic safety but I am new to concealed carry and the rules regarding use of a firearm in a life threatening situation. I don't want to short change myself by saving $20 or $30 and take an online class but if I get the same information, why not?

I've done both.
Take a good class face-to-face. If nothing else, you can ask questions!

As a trainer with a fully functional website, we have the "ability" to do online videos.

With that said, I don't consider "online CHP training" to be training at all. I consider online CHP training to be nothing more than a money making exercise. Many gun stores, etc promote online classes because they get a kickback from every student that takes it based on their identifying code number.

We haven't and won't offer online CHP classes. You can't ask questions, see real guns, hear what others ask, etc. Tell me the last movie you watched and who the actors were, their character names, their jobs, the city it was set in, etc. You don't retain much from watching a 30 minute video.

Online CHP classes have recently come to the NRA's attention and they have ordered their instructors to separate themselves from any such online classes. They can't use their NRA credentials to teach in an online capacity. I'm also a Utah BCI certified instructor for Utah permits and Utah likewise mandates that all classes must be done in person and cannot be done electronically.

I promise you that if you take a live class, whether ours or someone else's, you'll learn stuff you won't get in a video.

Online was convenient, but I had prior hands on experience from the Army. Shelling out 30 bucks or whatever it was was much easier in the long run than trying to get a new DD-214(army discharge form which satisfies the training requirement)), as I lost the original years ago.

I would have went hands on otherwise, but its my understanding live fire isnt always done in person anyway.
So rattle my bones all over the stones, I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns. Oh, see how words as old as sin, fit me like a glove.

I'm here and here I'll stay.
