My closest lgs had a sign in the window, "Sign up for Concealed Carry Class forming now".

Below that it has a sign that read 'No loaded firearms inside the store with the exception of law enforcement'.

I guess it is an insurance issure or such thing, I don't know for sure. I asked and the lady at the lgs didn't know either...

Can anyone comment?

Yes, I can comment with a question. Why would you want to have a loaded gun in a classroom training session?

No instructor will allow a loaded weapon into a "cold" classroom. That is why its "cold". Its purely a safety (and sometimes insurance) thing.

I don't think you follow ...

There were two seperate signs. One asking you to sign up for ccw class. The other stating that no loaded guns were allowed in the store.

So, If I sign up for ccw at that location and take the class, pass it, buy a firearm from the store and then carry it, I would not be welcome to carry it in the store if I was shopping.

That is the best I can do to explain the situation.

Personally I have an issue with this "rule" for CHP holders. No reason why I shouldnt be able to carry in a class room if I have a valid CHP. Granted the class in question is to qualify for one but IMO its the principal. We are so quick to boycott businesses where guns are forbidden but we waltz freely into situations like this unarmed...

The answer is simply this: Go to your local gun store and ask the employees to show you the bullet holes. These holes are from gun owners who have walked in and pulled their loaded gun out to see how it looks/fits in a holster, show it to a buddy, see which one is bigger, badder, meaner, etc. Some gun people get what is called "gun stupid". You forget all the safety rules and you do something totally dumb, which results in an ND. As a lgs, you can't be assured that everyone will keep their gun holstered, so you don't allow any guns in to be safe.

The rule is for the same reason as I explained in the other response. YOU may be safe, but not everyone is, so we must have rules that apply safety equally to everyone in the classroom.

I can't tell you how many times we have told a student "no live ammo" and they walk in, point a gun at me, and jack out a round while unloading their gun.

I had the same questions about visiting some of the local indoor ranges. I asked one of the folks working the counter, and their answer was similar; safety issues. Like Jim noted, guy pulls out his loaded gun to show it off, etc. and BANG.
I understand the cold classroom arrangement. At the gun store or range, I comply with the request, but it's a shame that a few have made it necessary to keep all of us from carrying loaded. If I am carrying, concealed or open, while visiting the range or local gun store with a "No loaded firearms" sign, I'll unload before I go in, reholster, and keep a speed strip or speedloader in my pocket. Not fast, or my first choice, but better than nothin'. This also means I don't have to lock it in the car. If carrying open, I've not had anyone question me.

Ive seen a different few rules,,,No guns ,, No loaded guns, and Holster carry only allowed in store,, Gotta agree with Proshooters analolgy about the misfires in the store by well meanng customers.. Parts of the anatomy have a bad habit of being changed permanently by these mistakes so I really don;t blame them for setting rules. When I did my training class,they collected all our guns and held them outside the room till we were done and came out for shooting proficiency, The gun store I frequent now is holstered guns allowed but I;d bet that one screw up and that will change...

GreenTop Sporting Goods allows Concealed Carry, as long as it's STAYS concealed.

I don't think they'd take kindly to a loaded weapon being whipped around.

If you respect the rules, you can keep the good ones. Work on the bad ones.

What's "lgs"?

Need to know so it can be avoided in the future.

I hear ya...and IMO people like that should be beat with their own pistol after you their CHP up a nostril...

I can definitely see the bane of loaded guns in a class environment. But for normal commerce, keeping loaded guns holstered, is a reasonable compromise. If you need service or want to try holsters, unload before coming in.

Well, gun stores love to post them signs on the front door...No Loaded Guns...why not just post one that all loaded guns MUST remained holstered or cased...one sign should be just as good as another...

I have issues with any gun establishment forbidding holstered firearms. No one should unholster in a public setting anyhow so it shouldn't matter what each person's ability is. A range once told me they forbid carrying since each person's abilities are different. That's the same as saying the less experienced shouldn't be allowed to carry at all.

Why not boycott a gun store that prohibits you from carrying?

Precisely the question at hand...only why not boycott a gun store or show that prohibits loaded carry...

First time I took my AR to the range (indoor), it was before I even had a case for it, and a store/range employee came up to me and asked me to open the bolt, so others in the store would know it wasn't loaded while I waited for my lane to open up. It didn't have a magazine in it either.
