The machine gun that will not dieThree words describe John M. Browning's .50 cal M2: Still in use.

Re: The machine gun that will not dieThere's no reason we couldn't also be using the M1919 system today, especially in a vehicle mounted role. I doubt there's anything out there that can outdo it in the MMG role without being watercooled.
And speaking of watercooled, seems like that would be just the thing for outpost duty in Afghanistan. Nothing gives sustained fire like a beltfed watercooled MG.
Re: The machine gun that will not dieDid anyone here see (maybe it was posted here and I missed it) the video of the Spitfire they dug up in Ireland that had crashed during a battle in 1941. They pulled the Browning machine guns out of the hole, cleaned them up and fired a belt of ammo through one of them. Amazing. If not seen here already I'll try to find it and post a link.
Oh well, it was easy to find. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15652440
Re: The machine gun that will not dieWith our silly laws we may never see the likes of Browning again...too many disincentives. I'd love to try out a few ideas, but right now I'm not going near that with a 10ft pole.
Re: The machine gun that will not dieThe artical is about the browning mkii, not the m2hb.
![]() I love any browning design, I had a good number of 1919's over the years myself. Still have a m2hb. ![]()
