Factory "Sighting In"

Postby KaosDad » Sun, 05 Feb 2012 18:05:42

I have a Stag Arms Model 2 that I purchased new. I have been plinking around with it for a couple of years and want to get more serious about it. So, my first question is this; I assume that the carbine was "sighted in" at the factory. Any idea of the distance to which the factory (or any factory) usually sights firearms?

Or, do they take a best guess and leave it up to the buyer?

Thanks All!

i definitely wouldn't assume any gun is sighted in from the factory. easy enough to verify though. remove bolt and look thru the barrel, finding some 'target' off in the distance. then look thru your factory sights and see if they also have that object in the crosshairs. if not, adjust sights until they do.

then take to range and shoot at 25 yds and adjust sights until they get you on the bullseye. then shoot at 100 yds and do the same.

then shoot at 25 yds out to the max distance you will be shooting the rifle and take note of where your points of impact are so you can take those into account when you shoot at stuff at other than 100 yds.

My Stag model 4 was right on out of the case at 100 with 55 gr ammo... I shot at fifty first just to make sure, but never had to adjust it...
