Fellow Citizens,

Let us remember on 2 November after we perform our sacred duty of voting that our responsibilities as citizens does not end but begins. It is no longer enough, nor IMHO has it ever been, to merely pull the lever and walk away satisfied. If we truly love our country we must be prepared to make sacrifices when our elected leaders stray from the Constitution and turn their faces from our cries. Voicing our opinion or petitioning our grievance is no longer enough for they have not listened in the past. If they heed our cries in the future and govern according to the letter and spirit of the Constitution then let us be satisfied. Otherwise let us take up our families, friends, neighbors and descend upon their offices in such numbers that they will be left with no choice but to heed our petitions. We will not go with violence but with peaceful solutions to our grievances. This, and only this, coupled with a massive presence of peaceful citizens dedicated to the Constitution will turn their deaf ears. Remember fellow citizens that peaceful assembly is our Constitutional right. If they do not adhere to the Constitution then we must or all is lost...

Five days...

Four days...

I can see change from my house

24 hours and counting.... I have a thrill running up both legs

Folks I'm sure we all pretty much have "Remember in November" on the brain. BUT, after you pull he lever today the mantra needs to change a little...NEVER FORGET. We can no longer afford to wait 2,4, or 6 years for the "hope" that twits and criminals get voted out. Remember each and every day that it doesnt matter who or what is in office. What matters most is what we do to take charge of our country. Our failure to act beyond the voting booth lets them, regardless of party, do as they please...NEVER FORGET that...please.

What that means is not just voting in the national elections. You've got to do all of the local ones, too. But even that's not enough. It also means getting involved somehow in politics, even if it's "just" your local school board (some folks think school boards are small potatoes and dismiss them--I disagree).

There is a certain level of trust built into our system by its nature. Remember, everyone, that this is a republic, not a democracy. In a republic, we inherently grant a certain level of trust to those we elect to office; it's called delegation (hence "delegates" in Virginia). That's why there's always the possibility for shenanigans. So why did the Founding Fathers choose a republic? Two reasons. First, they understood that a democracy doesn't scale well. Second, they saw that a republic can better protect the rights of the minorities from what they called the "tyranny of the majority". This idea is best exemplified by that often quoted expression:

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
"Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the majority decision."

The price is us getting involved and staying on the backsides of our elected officials, and not letting up on them. It means--if we don't have it already--an initiative process similar to what California has, as well as their recall process (Gray Davis, anyone?), here in Virginia. The ability to recall any official in VA would be a really good idea, IMO.

I am a big fan of the State/District having the option to Recall their Senators / Representatives if they are not abiding by the wishes of the People.

In MY OPINION I think that the State Governor should have the power to have the States Representatives and Senators Recalled to answer questions if they are not abiding by the will of the people of the State.

Once recalled they should be made to explain their actions and if found in contempt of the will of the people then they should be stripped of the office and a special election should be held immediatly and a new Representatives or Senator be voted in.

I know I am a bit on the extreme side on this but I am really sick and tired of these politicians going off to D.C. and making decisions that affect mine and my family’s life without any recourse on their actions. They should be held responsible for their actions and we should not have to wait 6 years in order to vote them out.

Thats not extreme ,,Our original Constitution called for appointing Senators not electing them so they had to answer to the state that sent them there, Passage of the 17th amendment took it away from the states and put it up for sale to the special interest money and party favoritism. I fully support the idea of being able to call them back and round file their ass if they are not doing the job they were sent to do. The next 2 years we will have to ride the new Republicans hard and let em know that the old way is gone and will no longer be tolerated, This election results were good,Next time we need Excellent and purge the crap from Washington,The states and locals and return to a nation of working, self sufficent, Americans and tell the slackers to get on board or get out of the way

A recall mechanism for the peopl to deal with policiticans at all leves would be great. But it would have to be ran by us - not THEM.

Absolutely... The sooner we address the fact that politicians are not royalty and are subject to law and are accountable to the people the better...Knocking them back down to reality can only be good for the country,
