Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"Ashburn (or Ca$hBurn), VA was a quiet little burg that experienced explosive growth over the past 15 years or so. I remember coming out here in the 80's in my 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback (351 Cleveland TRUE 4 bbl, thankyouverymuch) and destroying Cameros starting at the light outside the Hampton Inn until the next light at Church down RT 28. Of course, the LCSD was there to make sure we didn't do anything silly - like pour bleach on the road to get traction.
Now the general Ca$hburn area is home to about a bazillion folks and was, until recently, one of the safest place to live. We generally knew that you don't go down Sterling Blvd. at night. There was that one street off Herndon BLVD that you NEVER go down and, when in doubt, ALWAYS know the direction to RT 7. Oh, and NEVER rely on street names - you can stay on the same chunk of asphalt for 10 miles and it will change names three times. Well, chillun, it's all different now. This summer we had three armed robberies - one in daylight. Just in my neighborhood we have property damager, cars broken into, daylight home invasion attempts and now night time home breakin attempts. And the citizens demand protection!!!! "Where are the patrols by the hired security staff????" - I see them drive by at least four times a day. "Where are the Deputies???" Three patrols daily, more on weekends. Besides - they are here for the GENERAL peace - not to protect YOU. "What is the HOA going to do???" It's not the HOA's job to protect you - get over it. So I post three links: SEG - Get Trained NOVA Arms - Get Equipped VCDL - Get Informed The SIG is ready, the AR is loaded and the SKS is oin standby - and I'm the "Whack Job." PS - Going ot NOVA this weekend to get the Girl Child a peppper gun as she is a law mandated victim-in-waiting. Proud Navy Dad
Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"
Fixed it for you.
That is because you have organized actual security. Mostly people only want to feel safe and they can't do that when there are big scary guns around. There are many things that provide the illusion of safety (hence the feeling safe), but provide virtually no actual security. Also, actual security always requires people take responsibility for their own lives. They must change their bad/unsafe habits into good ones. That isn't easy and obviously most people prefer an illusion.
Ah yes, state guarantees for unarmed victims. How civilized. Pepper spray is ok, but there is a reason LE relies primarily on firearms, not aerosol hot sauce.

Oh yeah... sweet ride For some reason, this came to mind. Be careful out there. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke

Damn - thanks for watching the 6. Sadly - girl child won't be able to legally carry for a while. All she wants for her birthday in October is a "pink revolver." I love that Grrrrrl! Last edited by KaosDad on Wed, 08 Sep 2010 19:08:39, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"I lived in Ashburn for 6 years. In that time, several of the Exxon gas stations were robbed at gunpoint. I found out about that from the people who worked at them. One young lady was armed during one robbery and fended off the would be perps. She got fired by Exxon. A security firm hired her shortly after.

Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"
Well, your guns do sound like they're black, and therefore scary scary very scary. I've never actually fired my SKS. Sacrilege, I know... Seems Springfield is having some problems, too - so far the home break-ins are allegedly non-violent, but who knows whether or not that's the truth. My other half wants to go the range this weekend to window shop. Translation: we'll probably come home with something scary and black. Hey, no complaints here!
Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"@ chfaunce
It is not Sacrilege it is an Out and Out Crime that you have not shot that weapon yet. The SKS takes 7.62 x 39 and you can pick them up at the local Wally World cheap and if you can't afford them I have a few hundred rounds or so I can spare. Now get out there and have some fun with it and then report back how much fun you had with it. ![]() "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."

Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"I'm also inherently lazy and braving traffic to get out the NRA range is daunting.
I'm also not really all that familiar with stripper clips, so I know I'm missing out (used to feed mine a round at a time when I had one years ago - didn't include the clips). Double ![]()
Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"What needs to be changed is that the RIGHT to bear arms needs to be honored by business establishments - and employers. The 64 Act made it illegal to discriminate against people because of race, color, religion, or natural origin if the business is open to the general public - and these aren't even rights. Then why shouldn't my god given RIGHT be granted the same protection? My freedom of speech is not prohibited in a business provided you dont become a menace, then why are my guns prohibited provided I leave it in the holster?
WTOP story from this morning. http://www.wtopnews.com/index.php?nid=600&sid=2047954 Maybe she should have vomited on herself to make herself less attractive like the gun-haters have suggested. Or fought him off with a hair brush and car keys. I wonder how this outcome would have been different if the young lady was armed ![]()
Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"
It depends. Was she even aware of her situation? On our HOA Forum a young lady recounted how she was approached by a creep she didn't even see lurking by her car. She parked "out of the way" and was distracted as she went out - cell phone in one ear, digging in her purse for her keys, etc. All of the sudden there's this guy "asking for directions." The only weapons she had were her voice and her car. She escaped, but was the lesson leared? Nope - still an "anti." Proud Navy Dad
Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"
It's my topic and I'll derail it if I want to... If I may offer three chunks of advice: 1) Get this ammo: Wolf Poly Coat. This makes using the stripper clips only aggrevating enough to require two martinis rather then four. 2) Go to your next gun show and really shop around. I've seen stripper clips as low as $10 for 50. Get the best value you can because . . . 3) Grab a few bullets, your pack of stripper clips and sit down in front of a football game. Try and slide a bullet or two thru each clip. If it hangs up at all - toss the clip intot he recycle bin - it's just not worh the aggrevation. YMMV Proud Navy Dad
Re: Paradise Lost - and the Sheeple Cry; "Protect Us!"Oh, I have the clips, and the bullets seem to slide in just fine (I figured that much out), I just honestly have no idea what I'm doing otherwise. Where's the embarassed emoticon again?
