I've notice that a lot of the "anti-Obama" posts suggest/infer that Obama is a Socialist, Commie, etc.... has anyone given thought to the tactics/strategies used during the 60's under COINTELPRO to investigate, link, disgrace, harass, etc - by use of the "commie" label...?

... just some food for thought, discussion, etc.

That's an interesting parallel. During the Bush years, it was the fascist/Nazi label affixed to him by the left but now we've come full circle back to the Socialist/Commie label. I find it somewhat amusing that his detractors call him a S/C despite the fact that Wall Street capitalists benefited more from his administration (as well as from the Bush administration) than any interest group to date.

Frankly, this tactic predates the tactics of the 60a and goes back to both the days of Lenin and Goebbels. "The Big Lie" that Goebells used to tar the regimes enemies, by saying something so often and loudly that over time the recipients will come to believe it. He never wanted to admit it, but Lee Atwater used a variation of this tactic during the Bush-Dukakis election in the Willie Horton adds that became infamous.

Finally, these days its de rigeur to assign a label to your opponent then doing "selective" research that supports your label, making sure to "vet" inconvenient facts that don't support the label/analysis.

Yup. Right out of the Alinsky playbook that the current socialist wannabes use...

I'm fairly certain you have a point, I'm just having trouble with the connection. Covert intel has always been used in every country in the world, and is now being used in every country in the world.Intel by its very nature is covert, otherwise its public knowledge. People referring to Obama as a socialist or communist are basing that assumption on his statements and actions, agenda and acquaintances with known socialists and communists, so I think you can see why I am having trouble coupling the two very diferent circumstances that you purport. The program you are refferring to was sometimes abused, it was also very telling for its day. Example:

Communists have been trained in deceit and secretly work toward the day when they hope to replace our American way of life with a Communist dictatorship. They utilize cleverly camouflaged movements, such as peace groups and civil rights groups to achieve their sinister purposes. It is important to learn to know the enemies of the American way of life. "


This statement taken from one of the programs parameters rings true even today, although "mother russia" does not. Obama, a very clever alinskyite uses Uncle Saul's tactics daily. I could post almost every step obama has made and directly compare it to teachings of Alinsky from the exact period of time when the COINTELPRO was being used. Are you going to try to imply that alinsky was "just a dissenting political voice" and not a threat to the American system of government originally founded by our forefathers?

One more example, while Obama is up to his neck with the unions, and he is quite comfortable in that position, do you perhaps know the history and origins of the AFL-CIO? you should look into it.

As for the communists anti GOD or religious views, well thats too simple to go into. Just read a newspaper and you can't help finding a story about gewtting rid of God, somewhere in this "new" nation of ours.

as for the ridiculous assumption that Obama is a pro capitalist because he screwed the american taxpayer to help out wall street...... If he hadn't millions of union members would have lost their over bloated 401ks because they are invested very heavily in the markets. Thats the main reason he URGED, almost begged, then President Bush to implement the first TARP bailout , while Obama was still just a Senator. Obama knew all to well, that if he lost the unions, he would lose the election.

jadedone4, I am one of the many you are referring to I always refer to him as Comrade and not POTUS. it has nothing to do with labels or tactics. It has everything to do with his policies . Without upsetting gatlinggun6 and repeating prior post where I listed the 10 points of the Communist Manifesto and how many we have obtained and the ones Comrade Obama’s policies are leading us towards. so as wildbill44 said "IF IT LOOKS LIKE A DUCK, QUACKS LIKE A DUCK AND SWIMS LIKE A DUCK, THEN THERE IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT IT IS A DUCK!

GS78 is spot on. SO is Wildbill. Lets face the reality. obama is not going to stand up and say within ear shot of anyone "Look, I'm a socialist." That aint going to happen for obvious reasons. He made a mistake in trying to move left too fast. The transformation of the US into a socialist nation has been taking place for many many decades and started moving a little faster in the 60s with the creation of welfare and removal of prayer from our schools.

Notice how obama has swung back to the right a little. Not that he's crossed the line but my guess is his current strategy is to move towards the center far enough to placate enough votes for a re-election. If that happens and he wins a second term then I'm guessing we will see an all out push to the far left. God help us if that happens. IMHO at that point there will be no more secrecy. We will see some very radical moves especially if there (by any chance) that democrats still control congress. And, that does not look likely...

Having said all that, obama has clearly demonstrated he has a socialist agenda. The appointment of self professed radicals and communists, the push to force us to buy health care, the public option, cap and trade, open support of gays, attacks on the press, nationalization of private enterprise, etc, etc, etc. They all add up to one thing...and it aint democracy or a republic...
