Hello. I am posting to let you all know that Second Amendment March is not only a national event. The plan is to have all 50 states have their own march on state capitol grounds before the national march in D.C. (currently set for April 19, final approval pending). I was asked to be the state coordinator in Virginia. As a sort of introduction, please see the article I wrote for the SAM website - "Growing up without Guns" (I cannot find the link to the article on SAM website but if you google it comes up) : http://www.examiner.com/x-8088-National ... thout-gunsI was then interviewed by NRA News, but unfortunately they did not give much notice about the march itself. I never organized any event, so I will welcome any ideas, suggestions, and HELP I can get. I am looking for local area coordinators in all parts of the state; or people to be media contact person; legislators contact person, etc. To-date, I have contacted VCDL and was able to have information about SAM posted in their newsletters; I have reserved table at various gunshows in Virginia (first one is in Salem on July 18-19) where I would be able to hand out flyers, talk to people and hopefully raise funds. I am hoping to attend as many public events as I can (VCDL, VFW, American Legion, gun ranges, training classes, etc.) and recruit as many volunteers as possible. I am also finalizing DC area guide that would include information on public transportation and encouraging people to stay in Virginia during their visit. This will be posted on SAM website. Volunteer opportunities: I am looking for pro-2A tourist agents to help me book hotel rooms and buses for both Richmond and national event; looking for people in western part of Virginia to be local coordinators. As for the Richmond Capitol March -- I am looking into using the Capitol grounds (there are lots of limitation, major one being time -- all public events are limited to one hour) and nearby parks (which will require lots of funds and permits to be obtained). Tentative date - April 12, after lunch - to allow those from far ends of the state to arrive on time. Please let me hear from you. Post replies here or email leyla.myers@secondamendmentmarch.com - this is a better email (or you can still use virginia2am@yahoo.com ) Leyla Myers

Hello Leyla. Welcome to the forum. I have read your article "Growing up without guns". It was a good article, and I appreciate your input to our community. I have changed this thread to a Global Announcement - which means that this thread is visible at the top of all forums. I may change this later to be a regular announcement (visible at the top of the Political forum only). Please let us know what we can do to further your efforts, and I'm sure that people will chime in with any ideas that we have. Our coordinator here in the forum for the 2A March is "SnakeEater". His thread can be found here: national-politics/official-vgof-second-amendment-march-thread-t590.html.

Hi, there. My name is Alan Gideon, and I raised my hand and volunteered to be Leyla's Northern Virginia Coordinator. Right now, that means getting donation jars out to likely locations. I live in Bristow, and would like to meet anyone out there that would like to help. The best place to send e-mail is Alan.Gideon@SecondAmendmentMarch.com. I don't have a personal story as dramatic as Leyla's, but I would like to pass on one thought: Without the ability to defend yourself, you would need a police officer at every intersection. I lived in a country like that for six months. Police with MP5's everywhere. Trust me when I say you DON'T want to live in a country like that. I was safe enough, and the biggest crime news was a stolen lady's handbag, but....... You get the idea. Like Ted Nugent, I find it absurd that anyone should have the ability to decide when, where, how, and if I can defend my life or those of my family's. Take care.

7/25 "Liberty 101" in Chesterfield, VA It was a great turn out, the vendors estimated at least 5,000-5,200 people showed up during the course of the day. Since it was not a "one hour" rally/protest, it was hard to estimate the crowd size, but there was definately more than 200 people there (as some news would make you think). Pat Webb (2A Sisters VA Coordinator) was very kind to us and let me spread SAM flyers on her table, and she aslo gave me spot on the stage as part of her speech, and I gave a quick speech about 2A and SAM. I did not bring my teleprompter, so I read from my paper note. I think people liked it, they all were coming to SAS table after that and saying "good speech". I would like to re-state my request that I would appreciate any volunteers (any number higher than "0") to join me at these sort of events. People were stopping at our table from start to the end, and we had no chance to talk to all of them as much as we wished. Please consider coming out and being there for our cause. Also, we were able to raise some funds through donations and selling bumper stickers, but we are not anywhere near the amount needed to fund the D.C. March. I ask that you all go to donate page and contribute what you can - any $5-10 counts. https://www.fundraisingbynet.net/fbn/co ... ion=565958http://joe-joey.smugmug.com/gallery/905 ... Hello Fellow Virginia Gun Owners and 2A Supporters! I am Albert Shank of Charlottesville, Virginia and I will be at both the State and National March event in April 2010. Do we have an official "state" date yet? I have room for someone if they need a ride. We can put the top down on my Mustang GT-500 and tease the State Police and "County Mounties" all the way up and back (I always use "cruise" in 4th or 5th gear). I am staying at the "Mayflower" in the District (Du Pont Circle area) if anyone wants to share a room. Just a nice walk to the Mall. My information: Albert Shank (Al) albert.shank@comcast.net434-825-2532 (cellular mobile)
