Political posts - Virginia and Nat'l Politics Forum Locked

Postby allingeneral » Tue, 02 Feb 2010 20:48:30

The Virginia and National Politics forum has been temporarily locked. New rules have been added to that forum in an effort to conine all political forum posts to FIREARM RELATED only. We mustn't lose sight of why we are here. If you want to discuss political topics other than Second Amendment and Firearm related politics, please do so elsewhere.

We need to keep this forum on-track. The Politics forum will be unlocked after a couple of days - just want to let the forum settle out without any political bantering for a little while so that we can settle back into our on-topic discussions.

While the political forum is locked, if you have political news that you think is worthy of posting for ou members, please contact me or a moderator so that we can consider posting it (i.e. VCDL news regarding firearms related bills in the Virginia General Assembly, etc)

Thank you for your understanding.

Things do get heated at times, and while limiting volatile subjects would be good, eliminating them altogether I feel would be a great loss here.

As a specific example...Even in the heat of a past disagreement between many and our dear friend Jim (gatlingun) we could all step back and say, hey, Jim, we respect you and your views but here's why I disagree and nobody flew off the handle at the end of the day.

It's when the respect is gone I feel we need to address the issue, and moderators should be able to do that on a case by case basis.

As long as it stays in the proper sub-forum, I vote politics be a valid conversation topic.

Sorry if this thread was not meant to be posted in, just giving ye olde opinion.

Shhh...

I didn't realize we could respond, but I will. I appreciate the difficult position that all the political bantering has produced. I agree to refrain from all of it. Like you said if somone wants to engage in that sort of conversation , there are other places to do so. I acknowledge that. ..........

I feel the need to point out that this was not directed at anyone in particular. It's just that when looking at the RSS feed in the right menu, there are severa instances where half of the active threads are political in nature and not at all related to firearms.

I mainly want to redirect the discussions to be more on-topic. I don't mind an off-topic political discussion from time to time, but we must keep sight of the main subject matter to which this forum is dedicated.

Thanks for everyone's participation in the forum. I always welcome your comments and feedback. Feel free to respond to this thread (that's why it's not locked). :)

So, creating an off topic forum would not solve the problem as it would dominate the RSS feed? I had wondered about the lack of an off topic area, but that answers my question.

hmmm...you made me think... Maybe I could add some code to the RSS feed so that the political forum isn't included in feed results. But then that would preclude some of our more important threads from being RSS'd. Maybe an Off-topic forum is in order - "If it's not related to firearms but you feel compelled to share, please do so here".

I'll have to consider that...

I'm sure you all see the quandry between staying on topic and wandering off into political la-la-land.

I've added a new political forum for anything not gun related.

So, now we have:

Virginia and National Politics (Firearm Related Only)
and
Politics (All other non-firearm related)

Please do not post political discussions anywhere except within these two forum and be sure to select the correct one based on whether or not your political discussion if Guns/2A related or not.

I'm locking this post and the political forums have now been unlocked.

Carry On!

Please continue with political discussions in the appropriate forum - not in General Discussion - place them in the "Gun related" and "Non gun related" suforums under politics.
