Honestly everyone should own a Mosin-Nagant. Great rifles and you can't beat the price.

Given how long the background checks were taking at the last show @ Dulles I pass on picking one up.... Anybody have these locally ?

Cheers

Dark Sun Surplus sells 'em for the same price locally, no shipping, no FFL transfer fees. If Gunsource were in VA, then it'd be a good deal. Plus, for an old milsurp rifle, I'd really want to give it a good look-over before purchasing.

BTW, I agree, the Mosin-Nagant is a heckuva deal.

Yeah, I have owned a few in the past... They are really fun to shoot, especially at night! :)

It can be a Zen-like experience to disassemble, decosmo, clean, lube then reassemble an 50+ year old bolt action Russian war rifle! During the entire process, you ponder the multifaceted historic values associated with your weapon which in turn causes your respect and admiration for firearms and their mechanical beauty to rise to even higher levels!

I have seriously considered getting my C&R license multiple times but just haven't actually followed through with doing it yet. I have a Yugo M24/47 Mauser that I absolutely adore because of the design itself and the action of the bolt, not to mention the heavy walnut stock which is still smooth despite it's scars it has acquired in it's life overseas.

What can I say, I love guns...

At the gun show in Charlotte this past April there was a deal stuck WAY in the back. He had crates of never-seen-the-sunlight M-Ns for $114.00 The kit included the rifle, sling, cleaning kit and an ammo bandolier. Sadly I had JUST lost the job and could not justfy the cost.

3600 FPS with light ball...hehehe

perhaps down hill in a hurricane.

But for the poster who was thinking about getting a C&R... its worth it for other things too.

Midway for instance treats you as a dealer, and it can make a big difference on pricing of some items.

Looking at a peep site for a new rifle. $85 my cost, $120 regular price at midway. That one purchase alone will save me the cost of the C&R license.

Any have in experience with Gunsource? I would get one but the closest range that will let me shoot one it is a 4 hour drive! I really need to look into Blackcreek.

I've had a few. BIg 5 sports had them in their sale ads every other Sunday, for as long as I can remember. I think they were $59 back in the '90s, and the price went up $10 every now and then.
My friend gave me one that somebody had tried to "fix." They had cut about 8" off of the barrel, so I cleaned it up, and added a muzzle brake. It's now slightly shorter than an M44, and makes a giant fireball out the sides.

I got my first M44 at Big 5 too... and yeah, I don't know how those Ruskies could see the next day after firing a Mosin all night in the dark.

Here are some frame grabs from a video I shot of a friend of mine from Oregon shooting it.
